Theodore van Rysselberghe, known as Theo, a Belgian artist, was born in Ghent in 1862. He studied art in Ghent and Brussels, debuting at the Brussels Salon in 1881. Inspired by French Impressionists, he co-founded Les-Vingt in 1883. In 1886, he met Georges Seurat in Paris, leading him to adopt Pointillism. Van Rysselberghe became Belgium's leading Pointillist, creating notable works like 'A Sunday Afternoon at the Island of Grande Jatte'. He traveled extensively, settling in Saint Clair, Provence from 1905-1910. Post-Seurat's death, he shifted to a more realistic style, known for his portraits and graphic works. Van Rysselberghe and his wife, 'Madame Theo', significantly influenced Andre Gide.
