When a death occurs, a death investigation is conducted to determine the deceased person’s cause and manner of death. One of the most challenging parts of any death investigation is ensuring that all information is obtained for the near infinite number of death possibilities. Obtaining all necessary information can be overwhelming for death investigators. By following a structured approach, a death investigator can ensure that they have obtained the necessary information needed to help determine a decedent’s cause and manner of death. This book was designed as an educational and investigative resource to help death investigators obtain critical information during their investigations. This book provides information about basic death investigation, death investigation terminology, medicolegal authority, and death scene response. The bulk of this book provides a detailed list of questions an investigator should ask for anything from basic natural deaths to complex unnatural deaths. This book can also be utilized as an informational reference for anyone who wants to learn more about death investigation. I, the author, Jeffrey Gentry, am an American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) certified death investigator and an International Association for Identification (IAI) certified bloodstain pattern analyst. I have over 15 years of experience working for law enforcement as a deputy coroner death investigator. I have visited thousands of death scenes and have prepared more than 3400 death investigation coroner reports. I have investigated more than 1500 unnatural deaths, 300 homicide deaths, and 350 suicide deaths. My education includes a BS degree in Biochemistry / Molecular Biology, a Master of Public Administration, and an associate degree in mathematics. I have taught death investigation, bloodstain pattern analysis, and college level forensic science and mathematics. I have also worked as a forensic toxicology laboratory analyst.I am a member of multiple death investigation and bloodstain pattern analysis organizations including the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI), International Association for Identification (IAI), International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME), California State Coroner Association (CSCA), International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts (IABPA), California State Homicide Investigators Association (CHIA) and the Rocky Mountain Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts (RMABPA).My passion is death and crime scene investigation and bloodstain pattern analysis. I understand that there is little death investigation specific reference information available. I designed this book as an informational reference for new and experienced death investigators to better understand how to appropriately obtain adequate information during a forensic death investigation. This book is a compliment to my online and in person training courses.I have multiple death investigation and bloodstain pattern analysis training classes online at the Death Investigation Training Academy. https://ditacademy.orgMy other books include:A Visual Guide to Bloodstain Pattern AnalysisSuicide Death Investigation: A Scenario-Based ApproachMr. Mosquito: Bloodstain Pattern AnalystDeath Investigation: What is a Death Investigator?
